🌎 YouTube Recs for Indigenous Peoples' Day

Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day!

Today I'm highlighting two free PBS channels available on YouTube where you can learn about Native American history, culture, and experiences.

#1 - PBS Origins: Self-described as the home of "inclusive, intersectional history content", this channel features a series called A People's History of Native America, which covers "the current social climate in Native America and the factors that have shaped contemporary circumstances." Watch here.

#2 - PBS Voices: This channel describes itself as "dedicated to documenting our shared human journey, and helping us understand each other a little bit better." Here you'll find a series called Sovereign Innovations, which focuses on modern Native culture, societal influences, and the titular innovations. Watch here.

🎥 VIDEO REC: "The Narcissist Scare" by Sarah Z

This documentary-length YouTube video was recommended in a discord server I've started frequenting. I'd never heard of Sarah Z, so I withheld expectations just in case - but I was thrilled to discover that not only was the video well-structured, well-thought-out and full of great sources (with plenty of humor sprinkled in where appropriate), but it also managed to address all of the bullet-points about this topic that I myself had considered important to cover for a potential future piece, and then some.

In this video, Sarah breaks down the problematic elements of online "narcissist awareness" accounts and rhetoric, including its inherent biases, misuse of psychiatric language, culture of fear, social isolation, ties to Evangelical ideas of actual demonic possession, and so much more. I've instantly chosen to add it to my cache of content to link back to when speaking about these issues in future conversations.

🍂 NEW VIDEO: Rite of Descending 2024

The Rite of Descending, part 5 of my Wheel of Revolutions 2024 series, is now live on YouTube if you're into that sort of thing!

The Wheel of Revolutions is my personal take on a cycle of seasonal ritual celebrations, in the style of the Gardenian Wheel of the Year and its derivatives. I've been learning as I go how I want these to work, and while the beginning was super rough I daresay I'm prouder of it with each video I make. This time, we welcome our transition into the Night Side of the year with a short meditation centering on the imagery of the Solar Barque and the sun's descent into the Underworld.

  • What I Do (Professional): I like to bring new information and novel, intense experiences into people's lives. After gaining some experience recording my friend group's tabletop games, I recently launched a new youtube channel to experiment with several niches. Now I get to fight the ADHD Motivation Monster in hopes of staying active with it.
  • What I Do (Very Unprofessional): I've been a storyteller and roleplayer since I was small, and most of my time not spent on work-type things still defaults to this! I play and run tabletop games (Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, various others), enjoy immersive video games (survival crafts are a favorite), and enjoy creating shared universes with my closest friends.
